Here are some common mistakes of affiliates that you should know about so you can avoid them and prevent the loss of profit and time that they involve. There are always many products to promote and this leads to confussion as to what to concentrate on. Many people try to do too much at first when in reality they should concentrate on one and make that work, or find that it doesn’t after proper testing. Not Pre-selling
Is the majority of your time going toward crafting a pitch to sell your affiliate product? If so, quit it. This might sound like a farce, but as an affiliate, you job is not to sell. This is how sales happen or don’t happen. Somebody enters your site, reads your sales pitch and then clicks the link, all they are greeted with at the other end is another sales pitch. Will he/she buy it? Of course not. To prevent this from happening, you need to use your site to pre-sell your affiliate product, not sell it. Keep in mind, as an affiliate marketer you have to warm up the prospects and send them over to the actual sales page, not sell it yourself. Your site should recommend things rather than try to sell them, you want to offer enough content to maintain the attention of each visitor, but not seem like an advertising page, more a source of information giving customers the right advice for the right products. Then they click the link and are taken to the sales page.
Common Promotion Material – The second most common mistake that affiliates make is the choice of the promotion method, or what kind of promotion material they use. There are a lot of affiliates who do not even put the effort into writing their own ads. That’s right, a lot of affiliates just use the ads provided to them by the merchant. This is the easy way out, and fails to show their personality or to make them stand out. Now, nothing’s wrong with these ads, they’re well-crafted. But the problem is, everybody and their mother is using these same ads for promotion, which kind of makes you lost in the crowd. And that decreases the chances of anyone deciding to buy through your ad, which translates to infrequent sales. Therefore, take the time to personalize your ads and let yourself stand out.
- Joining Many Affiliate Programs
The basis of your affiliate marketing foundation is built upon your patience, perseverance and ability to focus. When you jump on lots of affiliate programs and try promoting many affiliate products simulatenously, you will lose focus. Each item requires a good portion of your time, so this can make it hard to concentrate. When you do this, you’ll be losing on the potential of your line of affiliate products that you’re promoting and the kind of money you make won’t be as huge as you think it would have been collectively.
